Keep Injury-free
Pickleball’s popularity is serving up fun for all ages, but with that surge comes a rise in injuries. Don’t let a trip to the sidelines sideline your enjoyment! Here are 5 pickleball safety tips from Z Sisters Pickleball to keep you rallying, dinking and banging injury-free:
1. Warm Up and Stretch:
Prep your body like a pro! Spend 5-10 minutes on light cardio (walking, jogging, squats) depending on your age. Stretch those hips, quads, calves, and wrists with lunges, twists, and forward bends as dynamic warm-ups before you hit the court. Check the court for uneven surfaces and unwanted leaves to avoid slips.
2. Master the Moves:
Are you new to pickleball? Lessons can be a lifesaver! A pro can show you the proper paddle technique to avoid strain. Listen to your body’s limits and consider strength and balance training if needed. Pickleball safety is a top priority when learning the game.
3. Gear Up for Greatness:
The right equipment makes a difference. Choose a lightweight paddle with shock absorption and a comfy grip. Supportive shoes and protective eyewear (especially for competitive play) are key for injury prevention. And don’t forget to protect your skin with arm sleeves or sunblock.
4. Respect Past Battles:
Previous injuries can make you vulnerable. Finish rehab before returning and consult your doctor about braces for old wounds. Even without past injuries, braces can offer extra support. History doesn’t have to repeat itself if you play pickleball with common sense.
5. Be Your Body’s Best Coach:
Listen to your body before, during, and after play. Are you feeling tired? Take a break! Stay hydrated and watch for overuse injuries in wrists, elbows, and legs. If pain persists or soreness lasts more than a few days, see a doctor.
