Day 9 Pickleball Serving Challenge

Day 9 of the Pickleball Serving Challenge – Master Pickleball Accuracy With This Simple Cone Challenge!

Welcome back to the pickleball serving challenge! Today, for Day 9, Carrie Z from Z Sisters Pickleball is bringing a fun and effective twist to your serving practice. Forget the usual court lines – we’re going tactile! Get ready to aim, fire, and hopefully knock down some cones in this engaging drill designed to skyrocket your serving accuracy.

Target for Aiming

In today’s video, “Let’s Try to Knock Down Some Targets”, Carrie sets up a cluster of cones deep in the forehand service box. The goal? To use your serves to knock them down! It’s more than just getting the ball in; it’s about developing pinpoint precision and laser focus on a specific target. There’s a unique satisfaction in hearing that satisfying thwack as your pickleball connects with a cone.

Why Cones? The Power of Visualization

As Carrie mentions in the video around the 0:26 mark, using targets like cones provides a crucial visual element to your serving practice. Instead of vaguely aiming “deep” or “to the corner,” you have a tangible object to focus on. This visualization is a powerful tool for improving your aim and consistency. By training your eyes and your body to target a specific point, you’ll translate that accuracy to your in-game serves.

The Drill in Action (and How to Do It!)

Carrie demonstrates her serves, aiming deep into the forehand corner (around 0:23). Notice her focus and intention with each shot. Even if the first few don’t take down a cone (as highlighted in the “Don’t Give Up – Keep Trying!” section around 0:48), the key is to keep practicing and adjusting your aim. The eventual “Success!” moments (around 0:59) are a testament to the effectiveness of this drill.

Ready to try it yourself? Here’s how:

  • Gather your cones: Any small, stable objects will work – pickleball cones, tennis ball cans, even water bottles.
  • Set up your targets: Arrange them in the service box you want to practice, focusing on a specific area like deep in the forehand or backhand corner.
  • Start serving: Focus intently on your chosen target and try to knock down as many cones as possible.
  • Adjust and repeat: Pay attention to where your serves are landing and make small adjustments to your technique and aim. The more you practice, the better your accuracy will become.
  • Share your results! How many cones did you knock down? Let us know in the comments of the YouTube video!

This simple yet effective drill is a fantastic way to:

  • Improve your aiming accuracy: By focusing on a tangible target.
  • Enhance your visualization skills: Seeing your serve hit the target in your mind.
  • Add a fun element to your practice: It’s like a mini-game on the court!
  • Practice serving deep: A crucial skill in pickleball strategy.

No Pickleball Court?

Don’t have a full court? No problem! You can adapt this drill in a driveway or any open space. Just focus on the distance and your ability to hit a specific point. WATCH THIS VIDEO for just this situation!
